Michael J. Spalding

Senior Counsel

Houston

Biography

Michael Spalding centers his practice on oil and gas matters and title concerns. A vital member of Burleson's Oil and Gas Title Practice Group, he has prepared numerous drilling opinions for companies with interests in the Eagle Ford, Barnett, and Haynesville shale plays. Recently, Michael brought his experience to multiple counties in Kansas, conducting stand-up title examinations of drill site tracts for time-sensitive projects in the Mississippi Lime play. A Houston native, Michael is the third generation of his family to pursue a career in the oil and gas industry. These ties, paired with the vitality and importance of the energy industry to the local and global economies, prompted Michael to focus his practice in energy law with Burleson.

Michael began his legal career working for a Houston firm specializing in probate and estate planning. He later gained valuable first chair experience as an assistant district attorney in the Harris County District Attorney's Office, where he tried numerous misdemeanor and felony cases, and was ultimately promoted to chief prosecutor of a County Criminal Court at Law. Prior to joining Burleson LLP, Michael worked for a Houston-based energy firm focusing on oil and gas title work.
